Freebie Friday (on Monday!): Fish for a year!

Pacific WestThe lovely people at Pacific West are giving one lucky reader the chance to win fish for a year! Yup, fish products for a whole year! All you have to do is enter this little competition and you could be adding healthy fish to your family’s regular diet – for a year, for free! How good is that?!

Pacific West Lemon Pepper SquidFish is a great protein to add or increase in your diet. It has many health benefits, including omega 3 fatty acids for growing brains. Studies have long suggested we should reduce our red meat intake and increase fish, and I read this recently on Jamie Oliver’s site about the specific risks associated with red meat consumption as revealed in a Harvard University study.

The study tracked “the diets of more than 121,000 middle aged men and women for up to 28 years, found that those who ate an additional serving of unprocessed red meat each day had on average a 13% higher risk of dying than those who did not eat red meat as frequently“.

I’ve been working to introduce more fish and chicken into our diets for this reason. I’m also limiting things such as corned meat and ham and smallgoods because these are reported to be linked to bowel cancer. My children have bowel cancer in their family history so we’re keenly aware how important it is to limit those risk factors.

Originally a supplier of seafood to Australian restaurants and chefs, Pacific West has grown to become a supermarket brand. Pacific West has an industry leading responsible attitude, working closely with The Marine Stewardship Council to help champion sustainability.

The only word of caution when introducing fish into children’s diets, is to make sure it’s the right kind of fish. Small breeds and many farmed species are ok. Larger fish, such as shark and swordfish are higher in mercury and not recommended for young children. For more information on mercury in fish and children, visit the NSW Food Authority website.

So how to win?

Caption this picture to win fish for a year! Simple – caption this picture of a kitten trying to source its own fish dinner!

This competition will run for the month of September, so enter as many times as you like. Also, forward this on and perhaps a friend might come up with the funniest line!

Could it get any easier? Go to it! And once you’ve won your year’s supply of fish, visit the Pacifc West Facebook page for helpful recipes to incorporate more fish into your family’s diet.

(A year’s fish products equates to 52 boxes of fish).
