LET me blow your mind. Ready? We are approaching the 20 year anniversary of Toy Story. Twenty years. Yup. Mind = blown, right?! Kids’ movies have improved vastly in the past 20 years, and there are lots more of them. So there’s a rich vein to mine when choosing the top 10 best kids’ movies of all time. Be warned, though, I have a few controversial picks on my list. What are your absolute must-have kids’ movies that never fail on a rainy day when you fire up the
VCR DVD player? We are experienced movie-goers here at Chez Moore, so we really know our stuff when we put a list of top 10 best kids movies together. Have we missed any? Let me know below.
My top 10 best kids movies (of all time):
1. Rise of the Guardians
2. Toy Story (1, 2 & 3 – top shelf all the way)
3. Finding Nemo (can’t wait for sequel, out 2014),
4. Shrek (and sequels)
6. Cars (but not Cars 2)
7. How to Train Your Dragon
8. The Goonies (old school!)
9. The Lion King
10. 101 Dalmations*
*We put 101 Dalmations on for the kids the other day. No, not the Glenn Close live action film, the original 1961 animated film. The kids *loved* it. And it was really dark. They talked about skinning puppies to make a coat! But my three were glued to it and have requested it since. It’s a 50-year-old movie! Which goes to show that Disney really knew what it was doing, even then.
So, what do you think? I know there are lots that I’ve left off. Another favourite of mine is Matilda, with Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman. And what about Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? Kung Fu Panda? The Harry Potter series?
Should I have put probably what many regard as the greatest kids’ movie of all time on the list – E.T. The Extra Terrestrial? Gasp!
Don’t be shy, weigh in!
